  • We are just back from a very successful Phoenix Festival and getting ready for the Los Angeles event in two weeks, so this newsletter will be shorter than usual. Our Fall schedule is hectic but always gratifying. After the upcoming Los Angeles event we will be heading for Houston and the 3rd annual event in that great city. Look for information on both of our Houston co-hosts, Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writer Having Their Say and Pancho Claus Scholarship & Art Fund in the next edition.

More About Los Angeles Latino Book & Family Festival

3rd Annual Phoenix Festival A Great Success

Attracted by a free back to school back pack giveaway, courtesy of Phoenix co-host, Arvizu Advertising and Promotions, and promoted by media partner Univision 33, close to 1,000 people were lined up and waiting for the doors of the Phoenix Civic Plaza to open at 10:00am this past Saturday, August 27. Plans to extend the back pack promotion to include both Saturday and Sunday next year are being discussed.

Needless to say the 3rd Annual Phoenix Latino Book & Family Festival got off to one of the greatest starts of any festival in our eight year history. Then the Folklórico Challenge USA dance competition got underway and Hall C at the Civic Plaza was jumping all day. Congratulations to all the teams and special recognition to the winners:

    • 1st Place: Ballet Folklórico Quetzales of El Paso, Texas
    • 2nd Place: Tradición Mestiza of Mesa, Arizona.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, Aka Chespirito, was a big hit and did not disappoint the long lines of autograph seekers. Appearing with his famous wife, Florinda Meza, they were most gracious with their time and mentioned that they were looking forward to the upcoming Los Angeles event.
